Accessibility Services at Gerstein

Objectives:

  • to provide accessibility to the library and its facilities, resources, and collections.
  • to facilitate the retrieval of materials required in the pursuit of study and education.

Hours of service:

  • Monday to Friday from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm
  • Please contact Dana Kuszelewski if you are unable to visit the library from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm
  • requests submitted on weekends or after 4:30 pm during the week will be processed on the next business day.

Services provided to those eligible:

  • book and journal retrieval
  • photocopying and scanning of library materials
  • items from the collection held for extended periods of time
  • computers can be reserved
  • materials for pick-up will be left at the Check Out Desk counter unless other arrangements have been made.

Computers:

  • 2 in the Information Desk area designated as priority usage by patrons with mobility issues
  • both have Microsoft Office
  • one does not require a UTORid login (more info)

Accessibility services' process: U of T students, staff, faculty

  • submit request for assistance to Dana Kuszelewski. The library suggests 48 hours of notice.
  • outline the nature of the assistance and the deadline.
  • each person’s request is considered individually.

No advance notice?

  • identify yourself to a staff member at the Information Desk or Check Out Desk

  • library staff will attempt to assist you as quickly as possible.

Accessible entrance:

  • to the north (left) of the main entrance at 9 King’s College Circle as you approach the building.
  • press the buzzer located to the right of the door and wait. A staff member will open the automated door.

Emergency exits:

  • the library recommends that patrons with disabilities inform staff, at any service desk , of their presence and intended location in the building so that assistance can be provided in case of emergency.
  • washrooms are equipped with self-opening doors and emergency alarms.

Washroom facilities:

  • 1-below: adjacent to the disabled entrance just inside the door on the right
  • main floor: south end of the building near the entrance to the journal stacks
  • second floor: to the north of the public elevator
  • all disable washrooms are unisex.
